During the Construction and Renovation of the Fire Station in 1988, a Museum and Artifacts room was built over the Washrooms. In 1989, a Museum Committee was formed consisting of Art Hamilton, D/C John Durno, Veteran William (Bill) Horton, and Veteran Starr Williams.
Being new at this, and not sure where to begin to number and catalog items to be consistant with other Museums, a trip to the Nova Scotia Museum in Halifax and referred to Art Pope (Curator of the Old Court House Museum) for guidance to start the process. After Cataloging all the framed pictures and artifacts was completed, the start up of displaying the Museum Room. The hard work was completed and revealed in time for the Ladies Night in May 1989.
We have also received a number of donations of artifacts and pictures from Member's, Veterans, and member's of their Family's, which all have been appreciated.
There have many visitor's from other department's, and as far as away as England.
The Museum is located in the front of the Fire Department adjacent to the Department's 1935 Chev. Pumper. Both the Museum and 1935 Chev. can be seen through the windows. To experience the true greatness, take the opportunity to see Kentville Fire Department's Heritage by stopping in and taking a tour.
